My name is Matt Evans and I am currently a third year student at Newschool of Architecture + Design in San Diego, California, getting my undergraduate bachelors degree in architecture (B. Arch). This blog is intended to display my design work, both school related and personal projects, along with all of its processes in hopes of receiving feedback from followers in order to increase my skills as a designer and prospective architect.

AOL 25 for 25 Grant
here is the portfolio i made for the grant that i am hoping to get from AOL. the main focus of the grant is to find innovative thinkers that come up with creative solutions to problems. therefore the focus of my portfolio was to showcase my innovative thinking through architectural design. displaying such projects as the cal poly design competition and multiple abstract art designs, i wanted to indicate my nonlinear approach to design and how i can apply that to a profession that, at times, can become very static.

summertime quick project
so ive been needing to revamp the small shelf that I built for my desk because it was just not being used to its full potential. with that in mind, I took about an hour to fix some of the problems I'd been having such as not having a place to store pens/pencils, the shelf using too much wasted space, chords strewn everywhere, and it was pretty ugly. some of the major adjustments were the incisions on the right side in order to store bulky items under the shelf as well as on top of it. also, a shelf for my netflix movies and ps3 controller was added. let me know what you think!

I am currently reading this book, The Edifice Complex. It talks about how architecture is and has been used by historical figures to promote public agenda, political power, and ideas to shape the world. So far I am really liking it and cant wait to get further in. Ill post a final synopsis when I finish the book.
I just finished reading this book and have to say that it is a must read for anyone who is an avid fan of architecture or just someone who wants to learn more about the built environment around them. It touches on issues such as how styles play an intricate role on how we perceive ourselves and also the topic of the book's title, how architecture makes us happy?
It is an exceptionally easy read with great case studies used accompanied by images to really drive the point across. I definitely recommend this book!
