student lounge design competition

I recently turned in my proposal for the new student lounge that will be built at school. the competition gave participants four weeks to come up with a design, and on two 30"x40" presentation boards and a 500 word essay, we were to present our idea. the timetable for when the winner will be announced is still undetermined but my guess is that it would be before the start of the fall quarter (oct. 4th).

my design was intended to serve as a space for students to escape from everyday school life, whether it was for short or long amounts of time. for me, i would simply love a place that i could spend an hour or so relaxing with a cup of coffee and watch some television in between classes. the wood finish is intended to give the space a soft, comfortable feeling. also, my design was almost $20,000 under the $50,000 budget and requires a minimal amount of construction/demolition. i hope you enjoy my design!

another small side project

this little piece was courtesy of vons grocery store and the cal poly project I participated in last spring quarter. I chipped this off of a shopping cart and now it serves as a safe haven for any beverage I drink while at my desk. it will prevent wet spots from occurring on the desk and will provide for safety against potentially knocking over a glass filled with liquid!

AOL 25 for 25 Grant

here is the portfolio i made for the grant that i am hoping to get from AOL. the main focus of the grant is to find innovative thinkers that come up with creative solutions to problems. therefore the focus of my portfolio was to showcase my innovative thinking through architectural design. displaying such projects as the cal poly design competition and multiple abstract art designs, i wanted to indicate my nonlinear approach to design and how i can apply that to a profession that, at times, can become very static.

summertime quick project

so ive been needing to revamp the small shelf that I built for my desk because it was just not being used to its full potential. with that in mind, I took about an hour to fix some of the problems I'd been having such as not having a place to store pens/pencils, the shelf using too much wasted space, chords strewn everywhere, and it was pretty ugly. some of the major adjustments were the incisions on the right side in order to store bulky items under the shelf as well as on top of it. also, a shelf for my netflix movies and ps3 controller was added. let me know what you think!

I am currently reading this book, The Edifice Complex. It talks about how architecture is and has been used by historical figures to promote public agenda, political power, and ideas to shape the world. So far I am really liking it and cant wait to get further in. Ill post a final synopsis when I finish the book.
